Did 2015 take anyone else by surprise? Despite the Christmas festivities that always signify year’s end, I simply wasn’t prepared when New Year’s Eve rolled around. I hadn’t reflected at all on 2014 and certainly hadn’t given much thought to what I want this year to look like.

Even once I gave it some thought, I didn’t greet 2015 with open arms. In fact, I felt a bit dismal about the entire year. My job hunt had ground to a halt in December and frankly, I wasn’t too keen on starting it up ...

Patience and love in the new year

Experts say that if you want to keep your resolutions, you should make them very specific and measurable. So that’s what I did last year—with mixed results.

My list for 2012 included things such as call brothers once a month (lasted until April), run twice a week (started, got injured and restarted), watch one movie a week (not a chance in hell), finish lavender sweater (ditched the sweater and went for a scarf instead, which still isn’t finished) and a host of other items.

These were all good resolutions, but they didn’t seem to really change ...
