How Do You Determine How Much Are You Worth?

Any woman nearing middle age—or in denial that she is in middle age because once you hit 40, middle age is always 10 years older than you are—has learned never to ask the question: “Does this make me look fat?”

It’s, of course, an unfair question because if you’re asking it, you already think you look fat. So basically you’re asking the recipient of your question to either lie or hurt your feelings.

The wise nearly middle-aged woman simply says to herself, “so what if my ass looks huge, these pants are fun and I ...

Can Home Depot Make You Hotter?

Cat calls, whistles, inappropriate under-the-breath comments.

Haven’t we women all felt that sickening feeling in the pits of our stomachs when we must walk solo passed a group of guys? In preparation for an upcoming family weekend at an indoor water park, I made a bold move. I found my bikini tucked in the back of the drawer and put it on—in the dead of winter. Brave!

Shockingly, my pasty-white reflection in the mirror didn’t cause me to run screaming from the bathroom and into the first pair of sweatpants I could find. A month of hard training for a half-marathon has created definition in muscles I didn’t even know I had. Instead of cringing, I felt proud.

So why then, am I reluctant to wear said ...

Why Personality Tests Say Nothing About You Bookmark and Share

Have you ever taken one of those personality tests? Pretty certain I’ve taken nearly all of them during my career. One told me I was a sea otter, another a shepherd, another a maximizer and yet another said I was an introverted perfectionist.

I’ve been thinking a lot about personality lately as I try to figure out what it is I want to do with the rest of my life, professionally speaking.

My conclusion is that these personality tests are bullshit. If an employer really wanted a truthful evaluation, they would require the questions be filled out by ...
